PQView 3.73.0 Released

PQView® 3.73.0 is available for download.

This release includes nearly 150 changes to PQView.  The changes result in improvements in all major components of the PQView application.

Icons for PQView PQ Data Manager and PQView PQ Data Analyzer: The graphics for the program icons and splash screens for PQDM and PQDA were updated.  They now use the same theme used for PQView Agent.

Support for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012: We made more changes to allow PQView applications to open more quickly when used with databases hosted by SQL Server 2012.  Also, the PQView23.sql script shipped with PQView was modified slightly to be more compatible with RTM edition of SQL Server 2012.

PQView Database Library: We made more than nine changes to the PQView Database Library that is used by an increasing number of third-party software engineers to query measurements from a PQView database.  Some of the changes include the important bug fixes in the subroutines that return statistics.  We also added properties that allow you to filter steady-state samples and harmonic samples based on valid minimum and maximum values.  New methods were also added for determining compliance for rms voltage, line frequency, negative-sequence unbalance, voltage THD, voltage fluctuations, and individual harmonics.

PQView Agent: You can now use PQView Agent to send overdue data source e-mail notifications.  That is, a PQView Agent instance running on one computer can send an e-mail notification if the data source owned by another computer is overdue for import.

Data Handlers for IEEE PQDIF Files: We made many improvements in the IEEE Std. 1159.3 PQDIF data handlers, focusing on improving our support of more types of data that can stored in a PQDIF file, and on better handling of errors encountered in PQDM during import of PQDIF files that do not completely follow the IEEE 1159.3 standard.

Data Handlers for IEEE COMTRADE Files: We improved the data source importing code for IEEE COMTRADE files, making it easier for PQDM to log problems with COMTRADE files noncompliant with IEEE Std C37.111-1991/1999.

Data Handler for Dranetz InfoNode Servers: You can now specify the maximum number of PQDIF record chunks to download from an InfoNode server during an import session.  The default used to be 1000, but was upgraded to 5000 in PQView 3.70.0  Starting with this release, you can specify larger numbers of PQDIF chunks to download as an option.

Data Handler for SoftSwitching Technologies I-Grid Web Site: We added options in the Data Source Setup that allow you to deselect import of Transient Events and Power Up Events. These options are not enabled for an existing data source, so be sure to mark them in your existing PQView database if you want to continue to import these characteristics.

Data Handler for ISO System Loads:  We added a new data handler to download and import data from the following Independent System Operators in North America: Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), ISO New England (ISO-NE), New York ISO (NYISO), Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM).

Photo Courtesy of NASAData Handler for NOAA Daily Geomagnetic Data: We added a new data handler for downloading and importing NOAA’s daily geomagnetic data file for A indices and K indices for the current quarter.  These "space weather" indices assess the current level of geomagnetic activity caused by solar storms.

Silver Spring Networks Integration: You can now import voltage, current, and energy data from Silver Spring Networks export files. Silver Spring Networks provides services for collecting and managing data from smart energy meters.

Other Data Handlers: We improved other data handlers in this new PQView version as well, including the modules used to import from the following sources: BTECH Battery Validation Manager, Electro Industries Communicator Log, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories® (SEL) EVE Folders.

Compliance Reporting: The functionality associated with the Compliance Setup Window in PQDM, which began in 2007, is finally completed.  The window allows you to create a configuration file usable by PQDM to create XML and HTML compliance reports.  The compliance setup includes the ability to specify two compliance intervals, which would allow computation of special compliance indices like “precarious voltage” required by ANEEL in Brazil.  Also, the PQView PQ Data Manager can now produce a compliance summary report for rms voltage, negative-sequence unbalance, voltage fluctuations (Pst and Plt), voltage THD, and individual voltage harmonics.

Steady State Trends Window: You can now specify the list of specific harmonics to display using commas, semicolons, and hyphens.  For example, if you set the harmonic text box to the string “1,2,3,10-12;21-25”, then the following harmonics would be trended: 1,2,3,10,11,12,21,22,23, and 24.  You can also specify another code to display inclusive lists of just the odd harmonics or just the even harmonics.  Also, you  can now display numeric site property values from a drop-down list box on the trend, histogram, and profile chart as horizontal or vertical line annotations.

PQView 3.72.4 Released

PQView® 3.72.4 is available for download.

This version includes 250 changes that result in improvements in nearly all components of the PQView application, including the charting engine, database schema, PQView Launcher, PQView Agent, PQView Explorer, the Power Quality Data Manager, and the Power Quality Data Analyzer.

Here are some highlights for this release:

Support for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012: We made changes that allow PQView applications to open more quickly when used with databases hosted by SQL Server 2012.

Data Handler for BTECH® Battery Validation Manager: We added a new data handler for PQView that can import voltage, current, temperature, and impedance measurements from databases managed by BTECH’s Battery Validation Manager software application.

Other Data Handlers: We improved the data handlers for importing the following data store formats:

  • IEEE® Std 1159.3 PQDIF Single File
  • IEEE® Std 1159.3 PQDIF Basic Folder
  • IEEE® Std 1159.3 PQDIF Annex C Folder
  • IEEE® Std 37.111 COMTRADE Folders with No Mapping
  • Dranetz® DDB Files
  • Electro Industries/GE® Communicator Log databases
  • GridSense PowerView CSV Folder
  • Qualitrol®/LEM Instruments Q-Wave Information System (QIS) databases
  • SATEC PAS databases
  • Schneider Electric® ION Enterprise® databases
  • Unipower PQ Secure databases.

Optional Capacitor Switching Analysis Answer Module: We completed changes in PQView to support the first version of an optional add-in module that allows automatic capacitor switching analysis.

Follow-On Fault Analysis: We completed many changes to PQView for single-event and follow-on fault analysis.  The updated module allows correlation of faults with voltage sags, voltage swells, overcurrents, temperature, time of day, and more.

Chart Units: You can now control the normalization of units shown in charts that show temperature and impedance.  For example, this version allows temperature time series to be displayed in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, and impedance time series can be displayed in ohms, milliohms, or kilohms.

Phasor Charts: The phasors displayed in the PQ Event Roll will now be referenced to the first cycle of the voltage on Phase A no matter which phasors are selected for display.
