PQDiffractor 2.7.3 Released

PQDiffractor® is a free PQDIF viewer and free COMTRADE viewer written by Electrotek Concepts for viewing, browsing, diagnosing, and converting PQDIF files and COMTRADE files, and is a free software download from www.pqview.com.

The COMTRADE file viewer was updated to read the last analog or digital channel of the COMTRADE file. Previous versions would set all values to null for the last channel.

The following menu commands were added to the Window menu when using the PQDIF viewer and the COMTADE Viewer: Tile Horizontally, Tile Vertically, Cascade, and Arrange Icons.

The Close All menu command did not work when viewing COMTRADE files. This was corrected.


PQDiffractor 2.5.0 Released

PQDiffractor® is a free PQDIF file viewer written by Electrotek Concepts for viewing, browsing, diagnosing, and converting PQDIF files, and is a free software download from www.pqview.com.

With the release of PQDiffractor 2.5, PQDiffractor can be used as a COMTRADE file viewer as well. PQDiffractor can now be used to view IEEE C37.111-1991 and IEEE C37.111-1999 COMTRADE Files.
Some other changes in this release of PQDiffractor include an upgrade in its chart engine to use the same version that will be used with PQView 4. Charts are now rendered by default using Microsoft’s Direct2D graphics API. PQDiffractor 2.2.2 rendered charts using GDI+.

Also, the installation program now installs version of the PQDIF COM Library, which can read and write series instances with up to 16 million samples. PQDiffractor 2.2.2 was limited to one million samples.

PQDiffractor now supports two command line options as well to support automatic conversion of native PQDIF files to XML format.


PQView 3.78.0 Released

PQView 3.78.0 is available for download. Here are some highlights for this release:

PQDIF File Importing: We made changes to allow import of observation records that have up to 16 million samples. In previous versions of PQView, no more than one million samples could be imported from a single observation record.

Automatic COMTRADE File Download using FTP: It is now possible to have PQView’s PQ Data Manager download COMTRADE files automatically from a remote FTP folder before data source import.

Better Multithreading: We revised PQView’s thread locking code to better support data source import of multiple PQDM instances running on the same computer that are run as a service using third-party applications like FireDaemon.

Updated Data Handlers: The following data handlers were updated: IEEE® PQDIF Annex C Folder, IEEE® COMTRADE Folders, SATEC PAS Database, ION Enterprise®/StruxureWare® Database, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories® (SEL) Event Report Folders, and System Loads

CYMDIST Database Data Handler: We updated this data handler to compute impedance for line geometries modeled using the average geometric arrangement method and to process line sections that have load tap changer models.

I²T Calculations: PQView will now compute accumulated I²t for the phases involved in the fault.


PQView 3.77.01 Released

PQView® 3.77.01 is available for download. This version includes more than 160 changes that result in improvements in nearly all components of the PQView application, including the installation program, charting engine, PQView Launcher, PQView Agent, PQView Explorer, the Power Quality Data Manager, and the Power Quality Data Analyzer. Here are some highlights for this release:

Faster Window Loading: When using PQView in its default language user interface, you will find each window loads significantly faster.

Data Handler for Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Reports: We completely rebuilt the data handler in PQView’s PQ Data Manager for importing native text files produced by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) digital relays and monitors. The data handler can now import SEL event reports (EVE files), compressed event reports (CEV files), and load profile reports (LDP files). Additionally, the PQView installation program installs example SEL files and an example configuration file demonstrating how to import SEL text reports. This change was completed in concert with developments in the PQView 4 Data Manager Service, which can download these text files automatically from SEL equipment.

PQView Explorer: PQView Launcher now includes functionality for creating a PQView database in Microsoft Access format and for importing IEEE PQDIF files. This change means that PQView Explorer can be used now as a lightweight testing tool for determining compatibility of PQDIF files with PQView.

Parallel Data Source Importing: We made changes in the PQView PQ Data Manager to allow you to import more than one data source from the same PQView database from different instances of PQDM on the same computer at the same time.

Improved COMTRADE Data Handler: We completed changes in the IEEE COMTRADE data handlers that will result in significantly less memory being used during data source import from folders with large data files. Also, PQDM is able to handle more types of invalid COMTRADE files without stopping the import of valid COMTRADE files. Invalid data files can be moved automatically to a folder called “problem” so that they PQView will not try to import them again.

Data Handler for Environment Canada Hourly Weather: We added a new data handler for downloading and/or importing data from nearly one thousand weather stations provided by Environment Canada via the Internet. The data handler imports time zone, latitude, and longitude for each station, along with hourly readings for temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, peak hourly wind speed, and wind direction. Weather is available for Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon.

Optional ION Enterprise Data Handler: We added a new data source option that will merge waveform segments that occur close in time into a single waveform record in PQView. Previous versions of PQView would combine them into a single event record, but with multiple waveform segments. We added this feature to enhance fault location processing of ION waveforms that had a long pre-fault recording since PQView will process the first waveform segment only. Also, we completed changes to enhance compatibility with optional waveform formats found in StruxureWare databases.

Optional Qualitrol QIS Data Handler: The data handler now imports compliance reports such as those for EN 50160, including compliance statistics for rms voltage, line frequency, flicker perception, imbalance, voltage THD, and harmonics.

Optional Eaton/Cooper CYMDIST Data Handler: PQView now considers the open/close status of the following power systems devices from CYMDIST databases: breakers, reclosers, sectionalizers, fuses, and switches. PQView also computes the impedance of mid-feeder step-down transformers. Additionally, we made changes that will make it easy to use data from mid-feeder reclosers for automatic fault location.

Optional SCADA Correlation Modules: You can now correlate PQView measurement events with up to three SCADA databases. Previous versions of PQView could correlate events with just one data source.

Integration with EPRI Power Quality Investigator: You can now import magnitude-duration tolerance curves from the SQL Server database used by the EPRI Power Quality Investigator (PQI) application. These curves can be used within the RMS Voltage Variations Analysis Panel for creating magnitude-duration scatter charts or SARFI indices. The PQI application, along with hundreds of tolerance curves, is available from EPRI’s Power Quality Program 1.

PQView Library: We greatly improved the performance of the subroutines that return steady-state and harmonic samples for large data sets.


PQView 3.76.0 Released 

PQView® 3.76.0 is available for download. This version includes more than 160 changes that result in improvements in nearly all components of the PQView application, including the installation program, charting engine, PQView Launcher, PQView Agent, PQView Explorer, the Power Quality Data Manager, and the Power Quality Data Analyzer. Here are some highlights for this release:

Easier Support of PQDIF Import in Windows 7: Many users have begun to use PQView on a Windows 7 computer, or the related Windows Vista, Windows 8, Windows 2008, or Windows 2012.   We made changes in the PQView installation program that will enable more complete import of IEEE PQDIF files when using these later editions of Microsoft Windows without needing administrator permission on your computer during normal usage. 

Parallel Data Source Importing: PQDM has some improvements that make the clean-up of temporary files less problematic when using PQView Agent to import more than one PQView data source at the same time.

Support for SQL Server 2012: You will find a T-SQL script that will ship with PQView 3.76.0 that can be used to convert an existing PQView database for full use in SQL Server 2012. 

COMTRADE File Data Handler: You can now specify more than one COMTRADE analog channel to be the source for a PQView waveform channel.  For example, if you are using PQView with a digital fault recorder that has more than one line current that needs to be summed to comprise the current for Phase A, then you can do so by simply adding the second channel in the COMTRADE-to-PQView channel map configuration file.  We converted some pop-up error messages to data source log messages.  We now allow you to override the line frequency in the configuration file, and allow you to import kW, kvar, and kVA if the COMTRADE file includes these power channels. 

ION Enterprise Data Handler: We added support the optional ION Enterprise Data Handler for PQView to allow import from Schneider Electric StruxureWare databases.

Reactance-to-Fault Add-in Module: In this optional add-in module used for automatic fault location, we added new e-mail notifications for negative-sequence overcurrent with no SCADA correlation, zero-sequence overcurrent events with no SCADA correlation, and events with missing current.

InfoNode Summary Window: We added a new window that can be used to show the status of all DataNodes associated with one or more InfoNode data sources in the PQView database.  The window lets you see the name, description, last connection time, status, health, serial number, model, version, IP address, and nominal voltage  for each DataNode.  Additionally, you can activate or deactivate multiple DataNodes at one time from within PQDM.  You can also use PQDM to request the InfoNode to poll one or more DataNodes on demand, and to view the InfoNode log.

New Chart Options: You can now specify the default chart size (small, medium, or large) and default zoom mode (horizontal, vertical, or horizontal & vertical) for interactive charts.

PQ Event Roll: We added a new derived chart that allows you to overlap voltage waveforms for a multi-cycle recording into a one-cycle window.  Also, you can now make frequency calculations for shorter measurements because we ignore just the first cycle and last cycle of the measurement before looking for zero crossings.  Previous versions of PQView ignored the first three and last three cycles.

Steady-State Trends Window: You can now add text annotations to the trend charts from the event descriptions or system event details. Also, you can use the window to display specific dates only, allowing easy comparison of the data logs for one day to another day.

Steady-State Load Forecast Tool: The load forecast tool, which can use temperature and/or humidity data along with historical load measurements to predict future load growth, was updated to be more flexible with correlation between load and weather data. A temperature sample needs only to be within fifteen minutes of a load sample in order to be compared.

PI Explorer: You can now query trend values from a PI Server without importing them into a PQView database.

Rapid Voltage Change Event Analysis Window: We made many changes to the tool that allows you to create RVC Event Lists and to make an RVC Summary Report to the specification of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.
